Smart microgrids

We are turning our campus into a living lab for a smart microgrid, with rooftop solar, storage and controllable loads run by digital intelligence and aligned with the India Energy Stack.

Programmable automation controller panels for the campus microgrid

India's grid is moving from a few large power plants to millions of small, distributed resources: rooftop solar, batteries, electric vehicles and buildings that can shift their demand. Running such a grid well needs data, automation and open, interoperable systems.

What we are building

  • A campus microgrid testbed that combines solar PV, energy storage, thermal storage and controllable loads, reducing dependence on the utility grid and diesel generators.
  • Digital intelligence for demand-side flexibility and peer-to-peer energy, in line with the Ministry of Power's India Energy Stack.
  • Analytics for grid assets, such as AI-based health monitoring for distribution transformers.
  • Skills for energy managers in data analytics, AI, machine learning and IoT, so smart energy management can be deployed at scale.
